Meet Julie

Dr. Bowden believes very strongly in the connection between one’s thoughts and feelings as well in the ability to make changes in this area to aid in growth and change.

Julie Ann Bowden (she/her), PsyD

Dr. Bowden is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania as well as the co-owner and director of Resilient Minds Behavioral Health. Employing a primarily cognitive behavioral approach, Dr. Bowden believes very strongly in the connection between one’s thoughts and feelings as well in the ability to make changes in this area to aid in growth and change.

Earning her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State University (University Park/Main campus), Dr. Bowden obtained her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She completed her predoctoral internship at Torrance State Hospital and was licensed as a psychologist in Pennsylvania in 2009. Since this time, she has worked with hundreds of individuals in various settings to assist them in improving their overall functioning and mental health.

Dr. Bowden has extensive experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals ages 12 years and up with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, life stress and self esteem concerns. In addition, she has a special interest and passion for working with mothers in all stages, from preconception to postpartum and beyond, having a particular compassion and awareness for treating those who are suffering from various challenges related to motherhood. Dr. Bowden continues to expand her practice to focus on women who are struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety.

Dr. Bowden believes very much in offering a safe space to work on one’s path towards change and approaches this with her empathy, warmth and down to earth manner.

Dr. Bowden is PsyPact certified and able to offer telehealth services to individuals residing in participating states.

Meet Jeff

Jeffrey Bowden (he/him), MA, LPC

Jeffrey Bowden is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania, as well as the co-owner and director of Resilient Minds Behavioral Health. He primarily uses a cognitive behavioral approach because he believes that our thoughts and beliefs greatly influence how we handle life's stressful situations.

Jeff earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (now Penn West University-Edinboro). He obtained his licensure as a professional counselor in 2018.

Jeff has extensive experience in the mental health field, starting with working at the former St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh as the intake coordinator for an outpatient and partial hospitalization program. After working for Southwood Psychiatric Hospital as their admissions coordinator, Jeff then spent 22 years working as a Psychological Services Specialist with the PA Department of Corrections, working at four state prisons as well as Mayview State Hospital on their forensics unit. In that time, he assessed, diagnosed and treated hundreds of incarcerated individuals struggling with various mental health issues, ranging from depression to schizophrenia.

Jeff’s specialized training in anger management, domestic relations issues, and crisis intervention services, as well as his view that each individual presents a unique set of strengths and assets to be enhanced, allows him to tailor services to the distinctive needs and interests of his clients.

Jeff also has the perspective that physical health and fitness plays a significant role in maintaining mental health and often incorporates physical activity into the treatment of psychological issues. As an endurance athlete for the past two decades, he brings the experience and knowledge that he has gained to assist others in the pursuit of wellness and resilience.

Meet Diane

Diane uses her 18 years of service in the counseling field, and her incredible amount of desire to engage with and connect to her clients to intuit what therapeutic modalities and techniques are presented.

Diane Winter (she/her), MA, NCC, LPC

Do you often feel overwhelmed and like life is crashing in on you? Is it a struggle to feel motivated for your life’s obligations? Do you struggle with events or relationships of your past or present that you just can’t seem to get past? You don’t deserve to go through this alone.

Upon your first visit, Diane will greet you personally from the waiting area, or if virtual, initiate the virtual session when ready. No matter which venue you are using to attend your appointment, it is especially designed to help you feel as safe and as open as you feel ready to be. At the initial appointment, you’ll discuss different aspects of your life with Diane, why you wanted to come to therapy, and talk about therapy goals and scheduling. Along the way, Diane might check in with you to see how it is for you to share these different types of information about yourself.

Although each client’s circumstances are unique, Diane uses her 18 years of service in the counseling field, and her incredible amount of desire to engage with and connect to her clients to intuit what therapeutic modalities and techniques are presented. Evidence- based modalities include but are not limited to: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. These are terms and techniques that she will go over with you every step of the way working collaboratively with you to help you achieve and resolve your therapy goals. You don’t have to do this alone.

Diane received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Waynesburg College. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania.

Meet Amber

Amber Kanoza (she/her), MSW, LSW

Amber is a licensed social worker in the state of Pennsylvania.  Her compassion, inclusiveness and sincerity guide her treatment of each person she meets and works with.  Amber’s ability to recognize barriers to change that are often ignored and her intuitive nature make her a skilled clinician.  She is straightforward, open minded and an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist.

Earning her undergraduate degree from Carlow University, where she thrived as a communications and mass media major, Amber’s experience working at a hospital after graduation and during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic led her to recognize the need for compassionate and inclusive care and mental health support for all individuals.  She returned to school to become a social worker and graduated from University of Pittsburgh with her Master of Social Work in 2022.  

Amber has found the challenge of working with individuals in acute settings and with addictions to be rewarding. She takes pride in her ability to adapt to the needs of the patients that she serves. Known for her expertise in navigating complex and multifaceted issues, Amber thrives in working with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including (but not limited to) anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, addiction and dual diagnosis.  

Amber is passionate about the use of Motivational Interviewing and incorporates this evidence based approach with elements of psychodynamic principles to tailor treatment plans to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual. 

Renowned for her warm demeanor and dynamic energy, Amber embodies a unique combination of professionalism and approachability in her therapeutic practice.  With a naturally friendly disposition and much enthusiasm, she cultivates a welcoming and supportive environment where clients instantly feel comfortable.

Meet Emily

Emily Geisheimer (she/her), MSW, LSW

Emily is a licensed social worker in the state of Pennsylvania.  Her genuine empathy, steadfast resolve and advocacy help her to support those navigating life’s most challenging moments.  Emily’s dedication to her profession and willingness to go above and beyond to better help her clients make her a valuable member of the Resilient Minds team.  She is inclusive, warm and creative.

Earning her undergraduate degree in social work from Slippery Rock University, Emily went on to work as a caseworker for Allegheny County Children Youth and Families.  With profound commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children, Emily worked tirelessly to intervene in cases of suspected child abuse and neglect and showed unwavering dedication to advocating for the best interest of children and their families.  During graduate school, and since earning her Master of Social Work Degree from Florida State University, Emily has advanced her experience by working with individuals of all ages in school based, home based and outpatient settings.  

Emily has a wealth of expertise in crisis intervention and stabilization, trauma informed care and suicide prevention, demonstrating a remarkable ability to provide compassionate support and effective intervention to individuals facing acute distress and trauma.  She finds working with teenagers and individuals struggling with depression, anxiety and social anxiety particularly rewarding.    

Using a blend of several evidence based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Choice Theory, Emily also finds using creative interventions, such as art therapy and play therapy to be helpful in customizing her approach to help the diverse population with which she works.

In her therapeutic practice, Emily infuses sessions with a nurturing, creative, and playful energy, creating a warm and inviting space for clients to explore and heal. Her innate warmth and genuine compassion foster a sense of safety and trust, allowing individuals to express themselves freely and authentically.
